The COVID-19 pandemic has presented the healthcare community with unprecedented challenges. Even amid the initial response, it is imperative that we think about and prepare for the next phase of the virus. We have spent the past several weeks actively working with our partners to use Pivotal as a tool in support of the response and to ensure that health systems and communities across the country are prepared for the months ahead.
Of the utmost concern is having the capacity to care for and treat COVID-19 patients within a hospital or health system while keeping other patients safe. Many areas around the country are preparing for what epidemiologists believe will be a second surge of COVID-19 positive patients in the fall. To plan, we’ve been looking at two scenarios within Pivotal: identifying alternate sites of care should the surge of COVID-19 cases overwhelm ICUs, and identifying alternate sites of care for non-COVID-19 intensive patients in hopes of reducing cross-contamination.

We are also focused on working with health systems and municipalities to plan a return to normalcy – or at least a new normal. Experts widely believe that increasing the velocity of testing is one step needed to ensure public safety moving forward. With Pivotal’s demographic and market data, we can supply our partners with strategic action plans for where to potentially stand up new testing sites as the supply increases. By layering healthcare and retail locations on top of population demographics, smarter decisions can be made to provide communities with access to testing.
