Enterprise Strategy Development

We work with health systems to develop strategies that drive sustainable business models across the continuum of care. As we collaboratively identify and prioritize strategies to address your most pressing challenges, we balance long-term vision with the ability to respond to near-term opportunities, fiscal constraints and market forces. Ultimately, our goal is to guide your system through concrete, implementable strategies that are best suited for you in the context of your unique environment.

Market Analysis & Demand Forecasting

Our team aggregates multiple data sources in order to provide a comprehensive and dynamic view of the community you serve and your competitors. We leverage claims data to determine key practice groups and physicians in your market and their alignment. Using predictive modelling, we project how the market may change, and what effect it may have on your organization and future volumes, while also accounting for the incremental impact of planned strategies.

Service Line Planning & Optimization

The success of your service lines is dependent on purposeful planning and alignment with the overall strategic direction of the enterprise. We assess the composition and performance of your service lines (as well as competitors) to determine current strengths and gaps, then generate data-driven, sustainable recommendations to guide their development. Throughout the process, we leverage research into national service line advances, (e.g., clinical, business technological, consumer changes) and engage service line leaders to garner insights on the market, as well as their vision of the future.

Physician Alignment and Network Development

Your enterprise strategy relies on the engagement and performance of physicians. More integrated and accountable relationships are required between physicians and hospitals as health systems transition from episodic care to population health management. We support your team with the development of a physician alignment strategy, whether your goal is network growth or integration to enable the management of the total cost of care.

Strategic Decision Support

Our team takes a data-driven approach to solving your toughest challenges. Through the application of analytical tools, such as simulation modeling, detailed process time studies and exploratory data investigation, we help you discover solutions that are unique to your health system.

pivotal.

Pivotal is a map-based, claims driven analytics platform equipped with a unique framework that empowers users to rapidly develop business plans, update those plans on demand and share them with key stakeholders. The platform helps to reduce risk by aggregating all the data critical to making informed decisions, ultimately accelerating business planning by enabling health leaders to be agile.

Master Planning

We have learned that while master planning engagements can transform an organization, the outputs of the traditional process are inherently broken. Master planning teams either omit the necessary perspectives, or these roles are siloed or filled by external consultants, creating delays and limiting rapid re-assessments. As Lean planners, we improve the value of master planning by redesigning the process. Our approach includes:

Building Infrastructure Assessment

The building infrastructure assessment is conducted through a combination of direct observation, review of existing documents, and facilities maintenance data, as well as interviews with facilities engineering personnel. The assessment will be visual and identify immediate, short term, and long-range capital investments required for the building core, shell, engineering systems and life safety systems to meet regulatory requirements.

Clinical Operations Assessment

Healthcare facilities are often built with one goal in mind, but then repurposed several times across their lifecycle. This can lead to an inefficient use of space, or spaces that are not designed to meet the current building code. To assess the longevity of an asset, we evaluate departments using multifaceted assessment criteria. This exercise helps us to estimate the breadth of work necessary to align the space with system goals and design requirements.

Resource Utilization and Throughput Analysis

A resource is anything that aids the movement of work through a system. Optimizing resource utilization decreases cost, increases efficiency, or both. After determining ways to maximize throughput and implement flow, we can ensure full utilization of resources without creating superfluous process steps.

Simulation Modeling

Array uses discrete event simulation models to produce high-level decision support resources. Building a model with readily available data from the electronic medical record allows them to move forward with confidence. The simulation model can help teams see the results of various scenarios in a quick, concise manner so they can make strategic decisions supported by data analysis.

Data Analysis & Visualization

Large amounts of data are collected at every hospital. As we work to help teams determine the best solution within their unique constraints, we use data visualization to show trends in a meaningful, easily interpreted format. This allows teams to use their data to make decisions confidently.

Scenario Development & Evaluation

We create a cost and return-based decision matrix to distill the many options that surface through the planning process. This matrix is used for decision support throughout the master planning process and is critical the clarification of key strategic goals into one actionable strategy.

Financial Decision Support

Estimating the financial repercussions of individual decisions and strategies enables effective decision making. We believe that estimating processes dependent upon development milestones do not convey the right information at the right time to influence critical decisions. In our approach, we create a cost and return-based decision matrix that is used for continuous decision support.

Pre-design Planning and Optimization

Lean is an operational strategy that can be used to achieve specific goals defined by your organization. Our experience extends from strategic decision making, where we help you define organizational goals, to tactical workflow analysis, where we assist in developing countermeasures appropriate to your specific situation.

Process Analysis and Design

Our job is to assist with analyzing your workflows and determining where value is added. This helps us see where the waste is and eliminate those non-value-adding activities, allowing your work to flow more effectively. We combine reliable tools (i.e. spaghetti diagrams, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and process mapping) with expertise to develop a solution tailored to your organization.

Value Stream Mapping

Mapping the value stream from customer request to completion is one of the best ways to determine whether your system is providing value to the customer. Value stream mapping clearly depicts the interactions between departments and technology platforms, and it shows the process times associated with each step, allowing the team to see where to focus their improvement efforts.

Lean Practitioner Training

Array’s Lean Practitioner Course provides an overview of systems-thinking using the PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) cycle as its framework for problem-solving. Participants will learn the history, philosophy, and principles of lean improvement. At the end of this three-day program, attendees should better understand how to identify waste in a process, uncover the root cause(s) of a problem, and formulate a countermeasure that considers the voice of the stakeholders. The Lean Practitioner Course is available as a certificate program if participants complete an improvement project following the class.
